Gemeenlanden “Commonlands” Houses
Architectural design for a small new residential area in Huizen: De Gemeenlanden. The winning design from a competition between 13 developer-architect combinations. The district accommodates 64 single-family homes in low-rise buildings and 68 apartments in medium-rise buildings. The place: the former LBO school in Huizen N-H.
The starting point is the transformation of an old school building. Maintaining the skeleton and providing new façades and fit-out.
Reasons: it is a sustainable solution, the building is a familiar image in the area and it provides a backbone for the development of the area. In the centre is a green square with a pond that connects to the adjacent greenery. Around this square: three types of housing. Low-rise buildings, medium-rise buildings in new buildings and medium-rise buildings in the renovated school. A total of about 125 homes. In collaboration with Budding&Fels Amsterdam.
